Kuthiraivali pongal / Barnyard millet pongal

Kuthiraivali rice or Barnyard millet Pongal recipe.

This Pongal has the same taste as normal rice Pongal.

Ingredients:(serves 3)

To pressure cook:
  • 1/2 cup Moong Dhal
  • 3/4 cup Kuthiraivali Rice
  • 1/4 cup Raw Rice
  • 4 1/2 cups water
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • Salt 
For tempering:
  • 2 tbsp. Ghee
  • 1 tbsp. Gingelly Oil
  • 2 tbsp. Chopped Ginger
  • 1 tbsp. Whole Pepper
  • 1 tsp Jeera
  • 1/2 tsp Asafoetida
  • Curry Leaves

Directions:
  1. Dry roast moong dhal in cooker or instant pot.
  2. Add kuthiraivali rice, raw rice and wash and rinse them.
  3. Now add 4 1/2 cups water,1/4 cup milk and salt.(I have added little raw rice to get the exact same taste as normal rice pongal, but instead of normal rice, kuthiraivali rice can also be fully used)
  4. Pressure cook for 4 whistles on a pressure cooker or rice mode in instant pot.
  5. Temper with ghee, gingelly oil, chopped ginger, pepper, jeera, cashews, aseofetida, and curry leaves.
