Black Ulundhu Kali | Urad Dhal Halwa | Ulundhu Kali recipe with Health Benefits | உழுந்தங்களி
Ulundhu Kali or Urad Dhal Halwa is a traditional dish of Tamilnadu. It is given to girls during puberty age & for women during pregnancy. It strengthens backbones, hips & uterus and is very good for women health. Try making this healthy & tasty recipe atleast once a month & get its health benefits.
Ingredients:
To Roast & powder
- Urad Dhal - 1 Cup (Black Urad dhal more healthy)
- Raw Rice - 1/4 cup (Red or Brown rice can be used for more healthy)
- Cardamon - 1
- Dry ginger - 1/2 tsp
Other
- Palm jaggery / Jaggery - 1 cup
- Water - 3 cups (1 cup + 2 cups)
- Gingelly Oil - 1/2 cup
Directions:
- Boil 1 cup jaggery in 1 cup water and dissolve it. Keep it aside.
- Dry roast 1 cup urad dhal by stirring continuously. When colour of the urad dhal slightly changes and a very nice aroma comes, it means urad dhal is roasted.
- Transfer roasted urad dhal to another bowl and cool down.
- Roast 1/4 cup raw rice for ~ 2 minutes and transfer it to the bowl and cool down.
- Grind roasted urad dhal, roasted rice with 1 cardamon & 1/2 tsp dry ginger powder.
- Mix the grinded rice dhal powder with 2 cups water and strained jaggery syrup without any lumps.
- Now heat the urad dhal rice mix and keep stirring until kali starts becoming thick.
- Add 1/2 cup of gingelly oil little by little and keep stirring until the kali does not stick to the vessel.
- Ulundhu Kali is ready.
- Use gingelly oil and make balls when the kali is hot.
- Serve warm.
