Ragi millet Semiya/ vermicelli

 

Ragi millet semiya is a very healthy and tasty semiya and can be had as a breakfast or snack.

Ingredients:

  • Ragi semiya/vermicelli - 250 gm (1 &1/2 small packet- Anil)
  • Oil - 2 tbsp
  • Mustard seeds- 1 tsp
  • Urad dhal- 1 tsp
  • Channa dhal - 2 tsp
  • Cashews - 1 tsp
  • Ginger - 1 tsp
  • Green chillies- 2 to 3
  • Onion - 1 medium 
  • Carrot- 1 medium 
  • Fresh/frozen green peas - 2 tbsp
  • Tomato- half medium 
  • Turmeric- 1/8tsp
  • Coconut- 1/2 cup
  • Curry leaves - few
  • Salt as needed
  • Water - 3 liters
Directions:

  1. Add salt to 3 liters water and soak ragi semiya in it for 3 minutes.
  2. After 3 minutes, squeeze out the water from ragi semiya and place it in a plate as shown in video.
  3. Steam this soaked ragi semiya for 5 minutes.
  4. Make sure the steamed ragi semiya is fluffy and doesn’t stick to each other.
  5. Heat a pan, add oil, mustard seeds, urad dhal, channa dhal, cashews, curry leaves and fry them.
  6. Add finely chopped ginger, green chillies and sauté.
  7. Add finely chopped onions, little salt and sauté.
  8. Add finely chopped carrot, green peas and sauté.
  9. Add pinch of turmeric and sauté.
  10. Add 1/2 tomato and sauté.
  11. Now add the steamed ragi semiya and mix well.
  12. Add 1/2 cup grated coconut.
  13. Mix well and serve hot with sugar or chutney.
