Red rice idiyappam is a very healthy recipe and can be made very easily with store bought red rice idiyappam flour.
Ingredients: (Serves 2)
Oil - 1 tsp
Water - 1 1/4 cup
Salt - 1/2 tsp
Grated coconut - 1/2 cup
Directions:
- Take 1 cup idiyappam flour in a vessel and add 1/2 tsp salt to it.
- In another vessel, boil 1 1/4 cup water.
- Add boiling water little by little to the flour and mix the flour using another spoon, since it will be very hot.
- When the correct consistency of the flour is reached as shown in the video, use hands and knead the dough well. ( I have used 1 1/8th cup of water to get correct consistency)
- Apply little oil over the dough and cover it with a lid.
- Apply little oil on the idiyappam plate or idli plate. Put some grated coconut on the idiyappam plate and keep it ready.
- Now put chillu with very small holes into the idiyappam press. (Putting chillu with very small holes is very important to get soft idiyappams). Put the prepared dough into the idiyappam press.
- Now press the idiyappam press over the idiyappam or idli plate and make idiyappams as shown in video.
- Steam the idiyappams for 7 to 8 minutes.
- Serve idiyappams hot with sugar or veg kuruma or non veg kuruma!!!
